About

The early years

I knew instantly that Architecture and Construction would become my profession when my grandfather, a building contractor, took me to a construction site to inspect from afar when I was four years old! This was, of course, before the Health and Safety protocols we have today! After leaving school, as a keen young man I was eager to gain practical experience and was employed by a highly respected and established architectural office to work on a myriad of domestic and commercial projects in west Wales. I learnt my craft the old-fashioned way, working on ‘the drawing boards’, designing, and detailing by hand, working with contractors on site and liaising with clients on project progress. I am grateful to the company for providing me with such valuable experiences and for their support and encouragement to continue with my education whilst working for them.

Moving on

The bright lights of our capital city and the possibility of working on large scale projects lured me but I knew that to continue to develop professionally, I needed to commit to full time academic study. After years of working professionally I embarked on student life, a little later than most, and was very proud to achieve a First-Class BSc (Hons) Degree in Architectural Technology. My hard work had certainly been worth it!  Those founding years of practical hands on experience were certainly key to my success.

The next chapter

My confidence grew. I was employed by large, award winning Architectural Companies and had a wealth of opportunities, working on major residential, commercial, leisure, retail, health, and education projects. The drawing boards were left behind, and new technologies were embraced.
